The Pipe House in the historic Agnes Fabrikker near Stavern was the heart of the great
Nittedals Tændstikfabrikk, which was in operation from 1877 to 1984. The factory at Agnes was built in the 1930s.
years expanded with a wood products factory that would utilize the surplus material from
match production. In the following years, large quantities of particleboard, children's toys were produced
and other wood products. Nittedals Tændstikfabrikk was subordinate to Bryn-Halden & Nittedals, which
was again owned by Svenska Tändstick. This ownership remained until the match production
was discontinued in 1984.
Agnes was Norway's last match factory when it was closed down, but is today part of the larger
the expansion project “Sjøparken Stavern” under the direction of Agnes Utvikling AS. The Nerdrum Association
In collaboration with Sjøparken, the museum has redesigned and adapted the old brick building on
Agnes into a showroom that seeks to honor the power and aesthetics of this important
part of Norwegian industrial history.
